EYES, HANDS, TIME

Various fabrics; hand appliquéd and embroidered
36 x 36 inches
A modern crazy quilt featuring a variety of appliquéd eyes, gloves, hands, clocks, and watches and festooned with a variety of embroidery stitches. Katherine Knauer comments: "Eyes, hands, and time are the three essentials for making a piece of art. I was feeling peevish about not having any studio space, and this was my way of trying to talk myself into using what I have available and not complaining. This piece was made for a Manhattan Quilters Guild group show, which explains why it is only 36” square—all of the MQG group show quilts are this size. When I work for myself, I feel it is important to make quilts that are actually large enough to be usable as bed covers."
