TOP KILL
Joe Cunningham
San Francisco, California
2010

Cottons, machine pieced and hand quilted, India ink
70 x 70 inches

Joe Cunningham comments: "Top Kill is my response to the BP oil spill of a couple years ago. The spill is made of india ink I threw onto the quilt top. I quilted around it with big stitch quilting like the booms with which they tried to contain the oil. Top kill was the name of one of the futile techniques they tried for stopping the flow from the pipe. It felt like top kill to throw ink onto my quilt top."
