WATERMARK: H-HOTEL
Gayle Fraas and Duncan Slade
Boothbay Harbor, Maine
2004

Fiber-reactive dyes printed on cotton, machine and hand stitched
57 x 57 inches
Note: This work is not framed

Fraas and Slade's Watermarks Series was inspired by the twenty-six alphabetical signal flags of the International Code of Signals, which are used for communication between vessels at sea. In addition to their use as individual letters of the alphabet, many flags have additional specific meanings. The H-Hotel flag shown below signals, "I have a pilot on board."
