WATERMARK: E-ECHO
Gayle Fraas and Duncan Slade
Boothbay Harbor, Maine
2006
Fiber-reactive dyes printed on cotton, machine and hand stitched
57 x 57 inches
(Note: This work is not framed)
Fraas and Slade's Watermarks Series was inspired by the twenty-six alphabetical signal flags of the International Code of Signals, which are used for communication between vessels at sea. In addition to their use as individual letters of the alphabet, many flags have additional specific meanings. The E-Echo flag shown below signals "I am altering my course to starboard."
