Nancy Erickson calls her painted, quilted art works "quilteds." In this typically wry and empathetic work, two bears, whose ancestors might have inspired some of the earliest known art, turn history on its head by visiting an artist in her studio. The bemused polar bear preens for the relaxed artist, while the wary second bear stares out at the viewer, as if his space is being invaded.
“In mature, wise, and loving work, Nancy Erickson invites us to embrace the color, light, physicality, and varieties of lived existence. She calls on us to imagine the otherness and dignity of non-human beings. She invites us to embrace and fully inhabit our place in the long, long history of mammalian life on earth.”
