The Source for Contemporary Art Quilts, Exhibitions & Appraisals

Jane Cochran says: "These Faces have been a diversion for me.  I needed a project to take to our cabin in Montana, where we go for a time during the summer.  I don't use faces in my quilts but loved to draw them when I belonged to a drawing group for twenty plus years. These smaller quilts were inspired by photographs of an African tribe who decorate themselves with flowers and grasses and paint. I fused and then fussy cut lots of fabric and then ironed them onto muslin.  It was kind of like drawing because I just played with the pieces to see what happened.  I then used my usual techniques of appliqué with beads to adhere them to the background and batting.
