The Source for Contemporary Art Quilts, Exhibitions & Appraisals

GREEN WOMAN
Nancy Erickson
Missoula, Montana
2006
Fabric paints, oil sticks and charcoal on velvet and cotton. Machine stitched, appliquéd and quilted.
64 x 53 inches.

(Note: Black background is not part of the artwork. Velcro is attached to the back of the piece for mounting.)

Like many of Erickson's recent animal portraits, Green Woman depicts a solitary, melancholy figure. Her body bears iconic images of wild creatures that echo paleolithic cave paintings and hint at the source of her discomfort—a loss of connection with the natural world.
